Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spätlese Gold Capsule 2006 DEMI (37,5 CL)
Harvested a week later than their -regular- Felsenberg Spatlese, from a steep moraine slide, full of dark slate and quartzite, the 2006 Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spatlese Gold Capsule is scented with white peach, mint, lilac, honey, pineapple, and candied grapefruit rind. Creamy, pure, and refined, yet also lusciously juicy, this drinks like a mixture of honey, orange creamsicle, and herbal elixir, shot through with fresh citrus. With some of the same creaminess and elegance of its -no star- sibling, but more richness and sheer concentration, this finishes with incredible purity and cling. Just as Frohlich asserts, although on paper an Auslese, this displays Spatlese virtues. No way would you guess that this wine (of just 7.5% alcohol) is hiding 110 grams of residual sugar! It's likely to be at its best from 15-25 years of age. There was too much of it to auction, says Frohlich, so it appears on his (and his importer-s) normal list and at a very fair price.
