Pretty and perfumed, the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles wafts from the glass with notes of sweet red berries, plums, rose petals, raw cocoa and loamy soil. Medium-bodied, bright and fine-boned, it's lively and precise, with filigree tannins and an aromatic finish.

The 2023 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru has a delineated, intricate bouquet that opens beautifully in the glass. It is surprisingly mineral-driven given the warmth of the season, with the terroir really coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly edgier tannins compared to the Taillepieds. This finely crafted, quite sapid Champans is fresh with a little more salinity, particularly toward the finish. By Neal Martin November 2024

The 2020 Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru has a floral bouquet, rose petal and iris, plenty of red cherry and strawberry fruit with sous-bois elements becoming apparent with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, quite foursquare and maybe just a little brief on the finish. Fine, though a little outclassed by its siblings in this vintage.
