Among the year’s most compelling wines, the 2024 Chablis 1er Cru La Forest unfurls with inflections of oyster juice, lemon peel, iodine and spring flowers mingling with beeswax. Medium- to full-bodied and tensile, with huge energy and all the hallmarks of the site, it pulses with electric acidity and is structured around ample amounts of chalky extract. The finish is saline and laser-focused, underlining this cuvée’s classical Chablisien profile in 2024. It stands as a considerable success in a challenging vintage, and I am ever more inclined to view it as the climat’s most compelling exponent.

The 2024 Chablis Fôrets 1er Cru has a compelling nose, touches of beeswax infusing the yellow fruit, hints of smoke and grilled almonds emerging with time, all wonderfully defined. The palate is taut and tensile right from the beginning (unlike the preceding Vaillons), lightly spiced, with a little more weight and grip here and a long, slightly peppery finish that has the sapidity to tempt you back for more.
