Savart's 2020 Écueil Les Noues, disgorged in November 2024 with a dosage of 3.5 grams per liter, comes from a 0.43-hectare south-facing lieu-dit of 20-year-old vines, but despite the relatively young age of vines, it delivers a highly aromatic and concentrated wine. Frédéric Savart explains that these vines tend to produce small Pinot Noir grapes with a high solids-to-juice ratio. Vinified in 500-liter barrels, 40% of which were new, it bursts from the glass with a deep bouquet of rose petals, brown sugar and red berries. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, with intense aromatics and vibrant acidity, culminating in a long, perfumed finish. While the 2019 rendition appears notably precocious, the 2020 is warmly recommended. By Kristaps Karklins May 2025
