Gigondas les Souteyrades 2007 (75 CL)

Deeper and richer, with just slightly more purity than the La Louisiane, the blockbuster 2007 Gigondas les Souteyrades (80/20 Grenache and Mourvèdre) is full-bodied and decadent, with huge notes of meaty black currants, smoked meats, licorice and roasted Provencal herbs. It, too, has ripe, sweet tannin still adding some focus on the finish, and it's a sensational, unctuous, heavenly tour de force in Gigondas that does everything right. Given the prices these went for on release, these might be considered some of the greatest values in the wine world. (JD, 3/2017)
