The 2023 Grenache Distenta V has gained a good bit of weight over the last year. Dark, savory and beautifully proportioned, it marries newfound breadth with the balance and suave texture that have been present all along. Macerated dark cherry, blood orange and lavender unfold across the palate, while graphite, crushed stone and gravel provide a firm mineral underpinning. The 2023 is richer and more expansive than it was last year, yet the fine tannins and whole-cluster spice keep everything beautifully focused. It is a Grenache of considerable polish and persistence. The blend is 81.8% Grenache, 8.6% Mourvèdre, 7.7% Syrah, 1.3% Muscat and 0.6% Petit Manseng.

A darker, more inward wine compared to the 2024, the 2023 Distenta V Grenache is based on 81.8% Grenache, 8.6% Mourvèdre, 7.7% Syrah, and 1.9% white varieties, vinified with 25.4% whole cluster and aged approximately 23 months in 57.8% new French oak, predominantly larger demi-muids. It reveals darker currants, black cherries, peppery garrigue, and graphite on the nose, and it's deep, rich, and full-bodied on the palate, with a concentrated, stunning mid-palate and ripe tannins. It reminds me possibly of a certain modern-day expression from Henri Bonneau. Drink this beauty any time over the coming 20-25 years. Drink 2026-2051. By Jeb Dunnuck September 29th 2026
