The 2022 Riesling Scharzhofberger Grosses Gewächs is very reluctant on the nose. Gentle green apple and lemon momentarily peep though. The palate is a lemony caress, a tender veil of citrus, a salty breeze, poised, barely there, yet totally present. So wonderfully characteristic, so refined, so tender and yet so profound. The 2022 Scharzhofberger GG shows clear, bright fruit with herbal, iodine and slate spiciness. Juicy, savory and salty on the palate, van Volxem's Scharzhofberger is exceedingly spicy and pleasantly astringent on the stimulating finish. This fine-boned, dancing sister to Pergentsknopp combines slate spice with fine stone fruit, herbal notes and crystalline acidity. Good length.
