Scharzhofberger Pergentsknopp GG 2020

"A greenhouse-like evocation of flowers and foliage mingles with scents of white peach and lime in the 2020 Riesling Scharzhofberger Pergentsknopp Grosses Gewächs. The underlying feel is silken, but nips of pepper cress and piquancy of peach kernel keep the tongue dancing, and there is a welcome abundance of refreshing primary juiciness. The finish is rapier-sharp, bright and invigorating, conveying a sense of energy that bodes well for the wine’s future evolution. But I find it intriguing - and perhaps it’s not coincidental - that the two Grosse Gewächse that Niewodniczanski chose to present last in his vintage 2020 lineup are precisely the two that I find marginally less exciting (and certainly less charming or enticing)."
